Easy crochet scarf even for knitters like me. I only know how to crochet one thing - a granny square. Here is how I turned it into a scarf without hours of sewing. Ok - you need to make this weird foundation row, but it is super easy. I was thinking that using beads threaded on a piece of yarn as the foundation row would be super cool as well. I might have to try that next time. I used Caron Super Soft Chunky and Hook K. Any yarn will work.
Here goes - The Free Crochet Pattern for the Oblong Granny Square Scarf.
Choose 4 yarn colors (or as little or as many as you want) and the hook size that the yarn label states to use. No worries on gauge on this one.
**Foundation Center Row**:
With A, create a cluster chain as long as you want the scarf to be.
Cluster Chain:
(Ch 3, work "Cluster" in second ch from hook) until it is as long as you need.
"Cluster": *YO, insert hook in ch indicated, YO and pull up a loop, YO and draw through 2 loops on hook; repeat from * 2 time more, YO and draw through all 4 loops on hook.
Ch 2.
Begin Granny Square around Foundation Row.
The rest of this scarf is using the basic granny square pattern around the foundation row. Still only 4 corners on this.

Brilliant! The best part, I don't have to join together all those squares! Very cunning.
