Picture shown here is the sweet sale Felici yarn from Knit Picks in "Building Blocks". Made these for hubby.
Knitting socks is a dream for me. Mindless, tv knitting that has the best reward. The recipients ALWAYS love them. I don't know what it is about hand knit socks, but people love them.
I can't be bothered with pesky pattern reading whilest watching this week's episode of The Real Housewives (must watch tv), so I've stuck this one to memory. I've stolen a bit here and there from patterns. It's really just some simple math.

I always cast on 64 in fingering weight yarn. Men, women - you are all getting 64 stitches cast on.
Always knit in magic loop, cuz those little double points make me wanna poke myself in the eyball.
Always a heel flap because I really, really suck at short heels.
Always knit cuff down because my decreases are nicer than my increases, and I really, really suck at short row heels.
Knit 2 Purl 2 ribbing for however long you want the cuff to be.
Knit until you want to place the heel.
Create heel flap on 1/2 of your stitches - (32 stitches).
Knit heel flap till it looks about square.
Turn the heel on 1/4 of your total stitches (16).
Decrease the gusset till you are back to 64 stitches.
Knit till it's the shoe size of the person you are knitting it for.
Make the toe 1/4 of your total stitches. (16 stitches)
Kitchener stitch the toe closed.

That's it. Easy Non-Pattern Sock.
